Detroit Free Press article on Faith-based manga-comics
The Detroit Free Press had an article today on two faith-based comics that are drawn in the manga style. While I’m all about people’s right to express their religion artistically, the whole thing seems kind of weird to me.
The Free press article focused on Goofyfoot Gurl and Serenity, two Christian-based “manga” comics published by Thomas Nelson Inc.
From the article:
While Serenity tells the tale of a girl who goes through life’s challenges and becomes a Christian, Goofyfoot Gurl is a friendly and moral person who got that nickname because she rides the waves in the manner many left-handers prefer.

Suki, aka Goofyfoot Gurl, is a surfer. She has surfer-like adventures with her friends, including a blond girl named Chardonnay. Yes, Chardonnay. I found it all kinds of ironic that this moral tale has a character with a stripper name.
MangaBlog had an interesting post on Goofyfoot Gurl and Serenity a while back. I think the comments on that post are worth a good read too, a lot of informative and well-written responses.
Me personally, I like a nice separation between religion and my entertainment. :icon_twisted:
